U.S. Government Works with Indian Law Enforcement to Return Fugitive Wanted in Florida Murder Case

An Indian citizen wanted by Florida law enforcement authorities for the murder of his niece was extradited to the United States on July 9, 2008, through the joint efforts of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and the Government of India. (more)

INDIA, U.S. NOW FULL PARTNERS IN EDUCATIONAL EXCHANGE


United States Ambassador David C. Mulford and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon signed an historic new Fulbright agreement July 4, 2008, strengthening educational exchanges between India and the United States.  This new Fulbright-Jawaharlal Nehru Scholarship Agreement doubles the size of the exchange program to approximately USD 5 million (Rs. 21.37 crore) and makes India and the United States full partners in the program. Reflecting this new partnership, scholarships awarded under this program will be known as Fulbright-Nehru Scholarships. The agreement was signed in the presence of U.S. Representatives Gary Ackerman (D-NY), Russ Carnahan (D-MO), Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX), Al Green (D-TX), Thad McCotter (R-MI), and Randy Neugebauer (R-TX). Since its signing by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and U.S. Ambassador Loy Henderson February 2, 1950, more than 9,800 Americans have come to India and 5,000 Indians have traveled to the U.S. as Fulbright scholars.
